“My Homeland” creates a conceptual tension between a map of the Arab countries, whose borders gradually deconstruct, and the soft humming of a well-known Arab nationalist song. This juxtaposition invites viewers to critically reflect on Arabism, Pan-Arabism, the Arab Spring, nationalism, and identity.
Created in 2013, during the hopeful emergence of the Arab Spring, the work captured a moment brimming with possibility. Viewed now, more than four years later, its resonance shifts—highlighting the tragic absurdity of how events have unfolded and leaving viewers with deeper, more complex reflections on the region’s political and emotional landscape.
